Meinl Sonic Energy 20″ Wave Drum Ocean Surf Effect for Meditation, ASMR, Sound Therapy, Yoga

Product description

Satisfy your longing for the sea!

The wave drum, also known as ocean drum, sea drum or sea drum, is part of the family of hand drums or frame drums. The Wave Drum consists of a flat, circular frame (so-called frame) and – unlike conventional frame drums – two skins stretched on the frame. Between the two skins of the Ocean Drum there are beads (e.g. metal, glass or amaranth), which, when the instrument is tilted, bead over the skins and produce the sound of a sea surf rinsing to the beach.

2 in 1 – Wave Drum and Hand Drum

Technical specifications: Siam oak frame (Hevea brasiliensis Muell.-Arg.) Walnut finish frame Plastic fur + hand-selected goat skin Filling opening for individual adjustment of the metal balls Can be used as a classic frame drum or wave drum Height: 2.5 inches Diameter: Available in 16″, 18″, 20″ and 22″

Forecast: The Wave Drum can be played by anyone, because the playing style is as simple as it is intuitive.

Hold the Wave Drum horizontally with both hands on the frame and tilt it in one direction with slow, circular movements. Then the beads roll inside over the fur.

With the speed and jerkiness of your movement, you can determine whether you want to imitate calm sea or a stormy sea.

In addition, you can also play the Sonic Energy Wave Drum like a conventional frame drum by hitting the two heads with the flat hand. The result is a drum sound with metallic click, favored by the beads.

Other sound variants can be elicited from the Wave Drum by playing with palms, individual fingers, mallets or brooms (not included).

Due to its large abundance of timbres, both musicians and sound therapists will discover a whole range of uses in this wave drum. Percussionists and entire orchestras use the Wave Drum from Sonic Energy as an effect and accompanying instrument, music educators use it primarily in working with children and in music and sound therapy, the Wave Drum can be found for creating meditative ambient sounds or as a harmonious variation in sound baths. When you close your eyes and listen only to the sound of the Wave Drum, you will immediately remember a long-awaited holiday by the sea, almost as if you are already lying on the beach. After this soothing sound journey, you will definitely feel recovered. Just watching the balls roll can have a captivating and soothing effect on your mind. Simply balm for the soul!

Durable construction

The frame of the Sonic Energy Wave Drums is made of Siam oak. This wood is particularly robust, yet lightweight and has excellent acoustic properties. It comes from the rubber tree (in the technical jargon Hevea brasiliensis Muell.-Arg. ), which is grown on industrial plantations of sustainable forests in Thailand. The walnut brown finish of the frame gives these wave drums a harmonious, natural look.

Wide sound spectrum

Due to the use of different drum heads, there are completely different tone colours depending on the model. Sonic Energy’s four classic wave drums (WD16WB, WD18WB, WD20WB and WD22WB) each have a goat skin and a synthetic fur, while the Wave Drum Flower of Life (WD16FOL) is composed of two goat skins.

The Woven Wave Drum (WD16WB-WH) stands out. This is vegan and covered with a synthetic fur on one side and a woven fur on the other.

Adjustable capacity

Directly next to the Meinl logo applied to the frame, you will find a resealable filling opening, which allows the amount of filling between the two skins to be manually adjusted. This allows you to adjust the volume, timbre and response of the drum individually to your own preferences and the intended purpose.
